On this ice cave tour, you'll explore one of the deepest caves made by man and discover the secrets of Europe's second largest glacier. An unforgettable experience!
Ice Cave Tour
The tour meets in Reykjavik, from where we begin our journey to the Langjökull glacier, with audioguide explanations illuminating the hidden stories behind the beautiful Icelandic landscapes along the way.
We'll make several stops along the way to enjoy some of the natural monuments in this part of the island, such as Hraunfossar, a waterfall so stunning that it seems to come directly from flatlands of solid lava.
After a little over two hours, we'll reach base camp, where we'll eat in the restaurant (food not included), then climb aboard the 'ice trucks' which will take us to the caves: especially adapted vehicles which are the perfect way to explore the surface of the Langjökull glacier.
Next, you'll enter into the glacier itself, passing through an artificial cave which enters more than 300 metres into the glacier. You'll learn about the construction of the caves, and the incredible feat of engineering that meant they could build this incredible work beneath ice compacted for thousands of years.
We'll explore the corridors deep into the Langjökull glacier until we find chambers with perfect acoustics and the faint blue ice which can only be found deep in the heart of the glacier. And the tour is topped off with a visit to the ice cave chapel, where many a couple have said an unforgettable 'I do'.
The tour ends back in Reykjavik at 6:30 pm.
Important Information
Due to the weather conditions of the places visited, you should wear warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking on snow and ice.
Meet Points
When making your reservation you'll see a list including the majority of the hotels in Reykjavik. Next to the name of your hotel, you will find the nearest meet point. As the majority of the streets in the centre are not accessible by bus, you will need to make your way to a nearby location, indicated as a "bus stop" and with a number.
For example, if you choose "20:30 - 1919 Hotel Radisson BLU (Please stand by for pick up at bus stop no 4 - Tryggvagata)" you should be ready at 8:30 pm at bus stop 4 (Tryggvagata). You'll find details about the location of the stop in the reservation confirmation.
