Landmannalaugar Day Trip
Vibrantly colourful mountains, hot springs and volcanic landscapes: discover the incredible scenery of the Icelandic Highlands on this day trip to Landmannalaugar from Reykjavik.
Landmannalaugar Day Trip Itinerary
After meeting your guide in Reykjavik on the morning of your tour, you'll set off to the east in the direction of the Highlands of Iceland, where the Landmannalaugar nature reserve is located. This region, characterised by volcanic valleys, is known as the "pearl of the central Highlands".
Making your first stop at the Ljótipollur crater, you'll embark on an easy hiking route to get the best possible views of the surrounding countryside. Crossing through a landscape dotted with rivers and lakes, you'll be captivated by the breathtaking Hnausapollur, a volcanic lake created over 10,000 years ago and whose waters are almost unbelievably blue. Throughout the trek, you'll be able to admire the striking contrasts of natural colours here, from the turquoise of the crater lakes to the bright greens and rich reds of the mountains.
Explore the hills of Landmannalaugar, discovering the vibrant colours of the valley up close. You'll have free time after your trek to rest and eat to recharge your batteries, before continuing on your route to the region's natural pools. Enjoy the opportunity to relax in the thermal springs while marvelling at the unbeatable landscapes surrounding you.
After an incredible day, you'll make the return journey to Reykjavik. On the way back, you'll pass close by Hekla, one of Iceland's most active volcanoes, which erupts every few decades. During the Middle Ages, this impressive peak was known as the Gateway to Hell!
You'll arrive back in Reykjavik around 8 pm.
